Chinese President Xi Jinping meets with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras

Beijing, May 13 (Xinhua)Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Greek prime minister Tsipras, who is in China for "the Belt and Road" summit on international cooperation.

President Xi pointed out that China and Greece, as important representatives of eastern and Western civilizations, should give full play to their profound cultural advantages, make full use of the Forum of Ancient Civilizations as a new platform, promote exchanges and dialogues among civilizations, and promote balanced development of bilateral trade between China and Greece.

Xi Jinping stressed that Greece's important international logistics hub strategy is in line with the " Belt and Road" initiative. China and Greece should strive to build the Piraeus port into an important port in the Mediterranean region, and promote deepening and solid cooperation in infrastructure construction, energy, telecommunications and marine areas, so as to benefit the two peoples more.

Tsipras said that Greece and China are two ancient civilizations. Under the new situation, both sides should cooperate in a wide range of fields and develop the Piraeus Port project well. He is also willing to promote China-Central and Eastern European countries and China-EU cooperation.
